“Duet will be honored to partner with Lions Clubs to bring about life-changing services to isolated elders and adults with disabilities in our community. Our program allows youths, teens and seniors to enjoy a Christmas or Holiday Season that they otherwise would never get the opportunity to experience.

Dear Friends, Colleagues and Brothers/Sisters in Blue,

As many of you have heard, Officer Dave Pubins was the victim of a very serious accident. While at home, off-duty, he was riding his bicycle with his wife, when he was struck from behind by a motorist. Dave suffered severe injuries which included, a traumatic head injury, broken clavicle, a crushed ankle and many other lacerations and contusions.

Immediately after the accident Dave was put into a medically induced coma. He has since been brought out of the coma and is breathing on his own. Recently he was transferred from ICU to a rehabilitation center to continue his road to recovery.

The true extent of Dave’s injuries will not be known for quite some time. This means that Dave, who recently retired from Scottsdale PD and began working as a Police Officer for the Maricopa County Community Colleges Department of Public Safety, will be off work for an extended period of time.

Unfortunately, because Dave is a fairly new employee he has a very limited amount of medical leave accrued. In fact, as of this letter, it has probably all been used. This has left his family in a tight spot.

In consultation with Dave’s family, we are asking for donations to help pay for medical and living expenses while Dave heals.

To make a donation that will go to assisting Dave’s family in their time of need please make out a check to “Arizona LEOS” (Arizona Law Enforcement Outreach & Support is a 501c3.)  This donation is to our Triple “999” program for circumstances where law enforcement need immediate help and support.

Checks can be dropped off/sent interoffice at any Maricopa County Community Colleges Department of Public Safety office in the District, Attention Officer Jim Hill

Or

Checks can be dropped off/sent interoffice to Scottsdale PD HQ, Attention the PIO Office

Or

Checks can be mailed directly to Arizona LEOS at 8414 E. Vista Dr., 85250.

Please include your email address so that you can be sent a receipt without us incurring any mailing costs.

Thank you very much for your assistance. If you have any questions, please call Cindy Hill at 480-695-2494 or email her at arizonaleos@cox.net.

I thank you and please continue your prayers for our friend.

Covering the Bases Back to School Event on August 5th!

So happy Arizona LEOS is a part of this great event city wide event on August 5th, as part of our Project  Blue Back to School program, along with other great agencies. I just want to thank the Scottsdale Lions Clubs for coming out to vision screen all the kids, MCCCD PD for coming out to spend time with the kids and do community policing, Rio Salado College for working with Delta Dental on Toothbrushes and Toothpaste kits, the Scottsdale Active 20/30 club for helping AZ LEOS with a grant for the event, and Jane D’Amelio with RIGHT TOYOTA/HONDA for sponsoring the event through AZ LEOS, and to the Exchange Club of Scottsdale for donating to help the kids at Family Promise AZ for their After Care program. And I can’t forget our beautifully funny “sock lady” Cooper Merrill for without her the kids would be barefoot! Thank you to all and to all the volunteers who are donating their time to be at the event on August 5th at Scottsdale Stadium.

AZLEOS President volunteering at Chandler’s Operation Back to School

Well, it is 5am and I am heading to Chandler High School to see what 3500 kids going to Operation Back to School looks like and volunteer as AZLEOS.  As I got there I saw a huge line of kids waiting, circling around the building.   According to the Vice Mayor…families started lining up at 2am as their Back to School is first come first serve and includes all families in title 1 schools meeting eligibility.  7am…the rush begins…check in with the school principals, bookbags and supplies, socks and underwear, uniforms, shoes, haircuts, and fingerprinting by Chandler PD.    9am there are still kids flooding in…by 10am we are almost done.  Whew!  That was a busy morning!

Thanks Exchange Club of Scottsdale for helping Family Promise through Project Blue Back to School.

Exchange club

Thank you to the Exchange Club of Scottsdale for donating $500 to Project Blue Back to School to AZLEOS for Back to School Clothes and supplies for Family Promise.  We recently found out 54 kids that are in transitional housing, were not included in Scottsdale’s Back to School program because they don’t go to Scottsdale Schools so they don’t meet eligibility requirements.  So we are asking for help from anyone who is willing to get these homeless children school clothes and supplies.  This is completely separate from the City of Scottsdale Back to School program, so donations will need to be separate from that program.  We will have a list available by Friday, July 24 of all the kids, ages and sizes.  Thanks for considering a donation.  You can get a tax deduction if you write a check to AZLEOS and we will buy off the list, or you can buy the clothes/supplies on your own.  We aren’t picky!  Just want to help these kids.  Thanks!!
